Terms of Service
Plain English. No legalese. No tricks. Just the rules of using Scope.
Scope is free, open source, and provided as-is.
Use it however you want. Don't break it, don't redistribute it as your own, and don't expect us to be liable if YouTube changes its layout overnight. We do our best, you stay reasonable. That's the deal.
Acceptance of Terms
By installing or using Scope (the "Extension"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree with any part, please uninstall the Extension. Continued use means continued agreement.
You must be old enough to legally use a web browser in your jurisdiction. If you're using Scope on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have authority to accept these terms for them.
License to Use
Scope grants you a free, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Extension on your own devices for personal or commercial purposes. The Extension is and will always remain free for individual users.
You may:
- Use Scope on as many of your own devices as you want
- Use Scope at home, at work, or for studying
- Recommend Scope to friends, family, or coworkers
- Review the source code (it's open source)
What You Can't Do
To keep Scope safe and trustworthy for everyone, you agree not to:
- Repackage, rebrand, or redistribute Scope as your own product
- Sell Scope or charge money for access to it
- Modify the Extension to inject malware, ads, or trackers
- Use Scope to violate YouTube's Terms of Service
- Reverse-engineer Scope to bypass its open-source license
- Use the Scope name, logo, or branding to promote unrelated products
Privacy
Scope collects zero personal data. For full details on what is and isn't stored locally on your device, see our Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy is part of these Terms.
Updates and Changes
Scope is actively maintained and updated through the Chrome Web Store. Updates may add features, fix bugs, or adjust to YouTube's evolving layout. By keeping the Extension installed, you consent to receiving these updates automatically.
We may also update these Terms occasionally. If changes are significant, we'll bump the "Last Updated" date and notify users in the changelog. Continued use after updates means you accept the new Terms.
Disclaimers
Scope is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We don't promise that:
- The Extension will work perfectly with every YouTube layout change
- Every Short, comment, or recommendation will always be hidden
- The Extension is bug-free or uninterrupted
- The Extension will be compatible with future browser versions
Reality check: YouTube changes its layout often. When that happens, Scope may temporarily miss something until we ship an update. We always try to fix things fast, but we can't guarantee zero downtime.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Scope and its developers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Extension. This includes but is not limited to lost productivity, missed videos, or any other claim related to YouTube content you did or didn't see.
Since Scope is free, our maximum total liability to you is, well, what you paid: nothing.
Third-Party Services
Scope is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Google, Alphabet, or any other third party. "YouTube" is a trademark of Google LLC, used here only to describe the website Scope works on.
We are not responsible for changes YouTube makes to its platform that may affect Scope's behavior.
Termination
You can stop using Scope at any time by uninstalling the Extension from your browser. There are no accounts to delete, no subscriptions to cancel, and no exit fees.
We reserve the right to discontinue Scope or restrict access if you violate these Terms (such as redistributing modified versions with malware). In practice, this will basically never happen, because we trust our users.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes related to Scope will be handled by courts in India. If you're outside India, local consumer protection laws may still apply to you.
